President’s Message

You will all know by now that Roger Knowles has recently stepped down as President, having founded the QSi some 6 years ago. I feel that my first task as the new President must be to thank him for his foresight and energy in setting up the organisation, and for his leadership and enthusiasm over the years. Roger will continue to be very much involved in the organisation as a member of the General Council and Editor of the QS Eye magazine. Review Rogers message to members about his vision of the QSi
here.

For those of you who do not know me, I have run my own QS practice based near St Helens for the past 30 years and as indicated in my election précis have been involved in a wide variety of building projects. I am currently widening the practice work base by becoming involved with Commercial Energy Assessment.

The QSi continues to grow and we are striving to improve and augment the service we provide to our members. For example, we recently created a Jobs section on the website, allowing job seekers to search for employment and to post their CVs, and allowing employers to advertise their vacancies.

Looking ahead we intend to focus on education in the coming months improving the current offering of training modules with the possible addition of an NVQ. We are also keen to offer our members discounts on a number of services. Reductions are already offered on training via Hart Construction Training, HR Dept, books obtained from BLISS Books and with the Utility Warehouse Discount Club, which has received very good reviews in Which? Magazine over the last few months. We hope to extend this to other useful services such as professional indemnity insurance.

To date the General Council has met every 2 months at a central location. It is hoped that in future we will have the option of members attending via teleconference link. Hopefully this will make meetings less time consuming and allow us to increase the numbers on the Council. Should anyone wish to apply to sit on the Council, please let our General Secretary,
Suzanne Cash now at admin@theqsi.co.uk.
